Privacy notice

I'm Denzel Maina, a journalist based in Nairobi, Kenya. I'm responsible for the personal details collected through denzelmaina.com. Questions about this notice: bookings@denzelmaina.com.

• Contact form: your name, email address, organisation (if given), subject and message, so I can reply.
• Booking form: your name, email address, organisation, event type, date, location and message, so I can respond to your enquiry. You also get an email confirming what you sent.
• Newsletter: your email address, so I can send you new stories. You're only added after you confirm by clicking the link I email you.
• Server logs: like any website, the hosting service briefly records technical details of each visit, such as your IP address and browser, to keep the site running and secure.

I use these details only for the reasons above, with your consent or to answer a request you made. I don't sell them or share them for marketing.

This site uses no advertising cookies and no analytics or tracking tools.

Videos from YouTube and TikTok only load when you press play. Once they do, those services may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies. YouTube videos use its privacy-enhanced mode.

To run the site and its email, your details pass through these services:

• Vercel: hosts the website.
• Resend: sends the site's emails and keeps the newsletter list.
• Cloudflare: forwards email sent to my denzelmaina.com addresses.
• Google (Gmail): where I receive and reply to your messages.

Some of these services store data outside Kenya. They're used only to provide the site and email, not for their own marketing.

• Messages and booking enquiries stay in my email for as long as I need them to deal with your request and any follow-up.
• Newsletter addresses stay on the list until you unsubscribe. Every newsletter email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask me to remove you.
• Server logs are kept for a short time by the hosting service and then deleted.

Under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019, you have the right to:

• be told how your personal data is used
• get a copy of the personal data I hold about you
• have it corrected, or deleted
• object to its use, or withdraw your consent at any time

To do any of these, email bookings@denzelmaina.com. If you're unhappy with how I handle your data, you can complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.

If this notice changes, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
